The LTAD (Long-Term Athlete Development) model emphasizes the importance of understanding a child's physical, mental, emotional, and social development through various stages as they mature. Specifically, it recognizes that development and maturation are critical factors that influence how children learn sports skills and participate in physical activities.

This model outlines different stages of development, reflecting that children progress at varying rates due to their individual growth trajectories. By aligning training and programming with these developmental phases, the LTAD model ensures that physical activities are appropriate for a child's maturity level, enabling effective skill acquisition and fostering a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity. Understanding development and maturation allows for a more personalized approach to training, maximizing a child's potential and minimizing the risk of injury or burnout.
